Kitchen Manager Job Description

Slipcast Brewing is a startup brewery being built in a historic and growing neighborhood in the Dayton Ohio area. Slipcast Brewing seeks to be recognized as one of the premier craft breweries in Ohio, pushing the boundaries to create unique, quality beers for both the casual and veteran beer enthusiasts. We will be a forward-thinking and technology driven company with a target opening date of Spring 2025.

Slipcast Brewing would like to hire a Kitchen Manager ahead of opening day. You will be the heart of the restaurant side of the business, the face of our brand, and help make the Slipcast Brewing taproom and restaurant experience special and unique. You will help drive Slipcast’s values within the restaurant and taproom - creating a family environment where all feel welcome to enjoy drinks and a bite to eat together. The Kitchen Manager will be included in the making of critical decisions with the restaurant team as well as selecting the restaurant equipment and potential food to be served for the taproom. To be clear, your salary would not start until a few months prior to opening day but we would like you to be part of the journey and development of the kitchen and staff planning before opening day. Slipcast Brewing is a seeking an initiative-taking, team-building Kitchen Manager. This manager will collaborate with company leadership and be responsible for all aspects of the restaurant including the staffing, scheduling, daily receipt/till balancing, equipment daily upkeep, cleaning, and managing the preparation of the food ordered in the taproom. The Kitchen Manager will set the vision and standards for the taproom restaurant team, purchase and stock needed food items, condiments, and other consumables used in the restaurant portion of the business. The manager will be responsible for the menu and to ensure appropriate staff are hired, scheduled, and working during food service hours. The manager will also assist the Vice President of Kitchen Operations with writing, reviewing, publishing and enforcing restaurant processes to achieve high quality, consistency, and efficiency along with standard food safety practices. Along with working with company leadership, the manager may be asked to work with the marketing team on developing the restaurant and taproom advertisements to drive business for normal customer draw, special events, seasonal events, and special promotions.

Your responsibilities include everything from mentoring team members to managing all back of house (BOH) operations and work with the kitchen staff in the front of house (FOH) to architect the ultimate customer experience. We need someone who is a quick thinker, problem solver, skilled communicator and a world-class motivator.

Responsibilities

  • Work with company leadership on all aspects of the kitchen process including budgets, costs, forecasting and planning

  • Lead by example and serve as a role model for the standards and behaviors consistent with Slipcast’s core values and culture

  • Proactively attrack, identify, and hire team members that embody the Slipcast mentality and have the ability to grow within the organization

  • Successfully and consistently communicate team wins, priorities, best practices and operational changes to deliver brilliant execution

  • Connect with the local community by assisting with Slipcast’s local marketing and community involvement initiatives

  • Serving as a role model for high quality, hands on, floor management - including effective deployment of labor to maximize throughput

  • Deliver store sales and financial objectives by removing any barriers to success

  • Schedule daily labor requirements that meet the needs of the business and provide great customer service experiences

  • Ensure food safety and security standards are met and adhered to consistently

  • Maintain food service and production levels by leading strong BOH execution and strong coordination in FOH

  • Address performance issues quickly and respectfully by coaching, counseling, and managing any conflicts

  • Contribute ideas, thoughts, and solutions that result in increased productivity, higher retention, and improved operations

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ in a restaurant/kitchen management role 

  • Experience in fast casual restaurant/kitchen chains (preferred)

  • Managed and developed 7+ team members per shift

  • A passion for food and restaurant/kitchen operations

  • Desire to make an impact on customers and team members

  • A can-do work ethic and the ability to take initiative on projects

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and build an efficient team in a fast-paced environment
