Brewmaster Job Description

Slipcast Brewing is a startup brewery being built in a historic and growing neighborhood in the Dayton Ohio area. Slipcast Brewing seeks to be recognized as one of the premier craft breweries in Ohio, pushing the boundaries to create unique, quality beers for both the casual and veteran beer enthusiasts. We will be a forward-thinking and technology driven company with a target opening date of Spring 2025.

Slipcast Brewing would like to hire a Brewmaster well ahead of opening day to include them as a colleague in the business helping to make critical decisions with the team such as selecting the brewing equipment.  To be clear, your salary wouldn’t start until a few months prior to opening day but we would like you to be part of the journey and development of the brewery before opening day.

Slipcast Brewing is a seeking a highly motivated, team oriented Brewmaster to run a 15 BBL system. The Brewmaster will work with company leadership and be responsible for all aspects of the brewing process including the production of beer and hard seltzers. The Brewmaster will set the vision and standards for the brewing team, select raw materials, create recipes, and develop brewing processes to achieve high quality, consistency, and efficiency standards. Along with working with the VP of Brewing, the Brewmaster will work with the marketing team on product development, special events, development of standards, people development, company strategies and brewing representative in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Work with company leadership on all aspects of the brewing process including budgets, costs, forecasting and planning

  • Responsible for beer and hard seltzer production and brewing operations from raw material to finished beer and hard seltzer ready for packaging

  • Work with sales team, distribution team and customers to resolve any matters related to quality

  • Develop and manage a diverse brewing team and inspire the team to achieve results at the highest levels

  • Oversee training of all brewing personnel

  • Manage brewing and production schedules

  • Develop new products

  • Select and assess raw materials for quality and supply

  • Oversee formulation and brewing procedures to maintain specifications and maintain or improve beer and hard seltzer quality

  • Test beer and hard seltzers then making corrections to processes or ingredients to improve taste and quality

  • Represent Slipcast Brewing on technical brewing matters including brewing events, professional associations, media communication and contact with customers and industry representatives

  • Build relationships with vendors

  • Enter brewing competitions and track outcomes

  • Create and maintain production brewing and cellaring standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • Manage and propagate yeast

  • Clean, sanitize and maintain equipment and environment

  • Maintain accurate records and inventory

  • Collaborate with team on recipe development

  • Plan for future needs including brewing equipment, facilities, personnel and processes

  • Accountable for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) compliance

  • Adhere to all Slipcast Brewing company policies and procedures

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional brewing experience

  • Degree in brewing science, or related field preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered

  • Associate or Master Brewer degree a plus

  • Strong experience with brewing techniques, beer styles, recipe formulation, fermentation, quality control and emerging brewing trends

  • Experience managing people

  • Experience in brewing business operations and creating SOP’s

  • Working knowledge of brewing equipment design, operation, and maintenance

  • Brewery start-up experience a plus

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail

  • Passion for brewing and commitment to quality and continuous improvement

  • Willingness to work where needed; front-of-house, special events (private/public)

  • Ability to work for extended periods at a computer

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
